Veteran-Owned Businesses for Sale
The Veteran-Owned or Service-Disabled Veteran Owned designation can be a game-changer for government contracting.
I talk a lot about buying businesses. Here is why I think this strategy is attractive to veterans in particular.
After leaving the world’s largest bureaucracy (the Department of Defense) a lot of veterans do not want to go to a large organization and instead seek something smaller.
Buying a business means the chance to be your own boss. For those of us who served, this can be an attractive career path after the command and control nature of the military.
Buying a business is way less risky than starting one. Instead of creating something from scratch, you get access to existing systems and customers. Especially if you are a little older and maybe have a family, this is way more attractive than the risky prospects of starting a business from scratch.
Whenever I talk to veterans about buying a business, I always encourage them to think about government contractors.
Why?
Because government set-asides can give you an unfair advantage.
The federal government sets aside 3% of its budget for Service Disabled Veteran Owned Businesses (SDVOB). That means for the Fiscal year 2023 Budget, $27 billion was set aside for SDVOBs and that is just with the federal government.
That, my friends, is some serious cheddar.
I’ll be getting into more about how you can find these businesses and why else you should think about getting into government contracting, but here are a few businesses that are veteran-owned and listed for sale.
